The Killing Jar (KJAR) is used as an alternate method of collecting Dipterans when catch viability is not a requirement. KJAR is a one pint (475ml), wide mouth, plastic jar that connects to any one of the ABC traps via a polyester mesh sleeve. The sleeve has draw cords at both ends for easy attachment and removal.
The sleeve is constructed of the same high quality material as NET1 with a mesh greater than 50 per inch to retain the smallest insects. Killing chemicals may be applied to porous material and placed in the bottom of the jar or, as it is sometimes done with alcohol, applied directly to the jar. A screw cap is provided for transportation or storage of the catch.
