Proven performance. Flexible solutions. Environmental responsibility.
The AquaBac® larvicide portfolio consists of four single brood formulations in granule, liquid, and water dispersible granules that target mosquitoes at their source—before they can bite, breed, or spread disease.
Powered by Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis (Bti), a highly selective, naturally occurring soil bacterium with minimal environmental impacts, AquaBac® has been safely protecting communities for over 30 years.

AquaBac® is formulated with Bti, a biodegradable active ingredient that’s highly specific to mosquito, fly, and midge larvae rather than beneficial insects, fish, birds, or mammals. This favorable environmental profile lends itself for use in areas such as schools, parks, protected wildlife habitats, drinking water sources, federal and state managed lands, and residential neighborhoods. For communities requiring organic options, AquaBac® 200G is OMRI® Listed and approved for organic programs.
AquaBac® is a flexible, single brood option for sensitive areas and challenging environments where programs need a one-hit or more flexible application.
Bti has been used safely worldwide for decades and is widely accepted by the public, environmental groups, and regulatory agencies. Extensive field experience and scientific research have consistently demonstrated Bti’s safety profile, leading to its approval for use broadly, including in drinking water sources, and sensitive ecological areas. This track record of safe, effective use makes AquaBac® a preferred choice for programs that must balance mosquito control needs with environmental responsibility and community concerns.
Clarke takes product performance seriously. Our Research, Development & Engineering team has conducted extensive testing to validate AquaBac®’s effectiveness, with results demonstrating it meets – and sometimes exceeds – performance standards for Bti-based larvicides.
Laboratory Studies
Clarke’s lab studies showed the AquaBac® 200G and XT formulations achieved mortality rates exceeding 95% within 48 hours against Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes – results nearly identical to comparable Bti products on the market.
Field Performance
Real-world field trials using backpack sprayers to apply AquaBac® WDG against Aedes mosquitoes confirmed strong performance. Both AquaBac® and comparable products performed well, with AquaBac® actually demonstrating significantly better coverage at application swaths of 10, 25, and 30 feet.
Natural Resistance Management
Bti-based products like AquaBac® naturally help prevent insecticide resistance due to their unique multi-toxin mode of action. Mosquitoes have not developed widespread resistance to Bti in over thirty years of use, making AquaBac® a sustainable long-term solution for your community when rotated with other larvicides.
AquaBac® is formulated with the active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis (Bti), a naturally occurring bacterium that produces proteins that are highly selective for and toxic to mosquito, blackfly, and midge larvae. When larvae ingest water that has been treated with AquaBac®:
This targeted mode of action means AquaBac® is highly specific to its target pests while treated water is safe for people, pets, wildlife, and beneficial insects like bees and butterflies.
AquaBac® is available in four formulations to fit your program’s specific requirements.
