  • ABC Basic Light Trap (with electronics)

    ABC Basic Light Trap ABC Trap is the basic American Biophysics battery powered portable light trap. This flexible trap is setting a new standard for quality of construction and reliability in Dipteran collection equipment.With the addition of a net and battery, the ABC TRAP1 is field ready. A built-in electronics module with photosensor allows you the flexibility to program the light source and fan motor to operate in five different modes, including the military SSAM algorithm.LID2 and ROPE1 (4’ rope with handy adjustment clip) are provided along with a 6-1/2’ power cord for hanging the trap up to 7’ above the ground.External and internal hangers are provided for attractant packages such as the OCT1 slow release octenol packet.

    As the basic building block of the ABC trap series, this trap can be adapted for CO2 emission and other configurations with the addition of optional components.

    With net openings of only .010” x .010”, this net allows capture of the smallest insects. NET1, constructed of high quality polyester multifilament mesh and stainless steel ringsfor excellent sunlight and weather durability, includes many features not available elsewhere for field trapping.

    A removable shelter provides insects with an area to avoid rain and the fan’s desiccating air flow.The bottom of the net is a removable tray that allows damage-free removal of insects for taxonomy studies or identification. The aspiration of live catch samples is easily accomplished through a velcro port.A write-on label provides error-free identification of trap sites, and draw-string closures make set-ups secure and easy.

    With the addition of PROP(set of 3 wooden props sold as optional equipment) the net can be used as a transportation cage. The net dimensions are 17” (43cm) tall by 10.75” (27.3cm) diameter.

    ABC Trap Kit 1This kit includes the all weather, battery operated, portable, ABCTRAP1 for sampling adult mosquito or other Dipteran populations that are attracted to a diffused light source or chemical attractants.The ABC TRAP1 is engineered from the bottom up to make your job easier.

    An electronics module allows you to program the light source and fan motor to operate in 5 different modes.This trap kit includes a polyester NET1 that features a removable bottom tray for ease of catch removal, a shelter for preventing catch desiccation and a velcro opening for aspirating live samples.A fixed hanging rope (ROPE1) with an adjustable clip and a 6-1/2’ power cord allows you the convenience of hanging the trap up to 7 ft. above ground level.This kit also includes BAT6/10, a gel-cell battery which is capable of operating the trap continuously for up to 72 hrs. when fully charged.

    TRAPKIT1 is shipped with everything you need for trapping situations that do not require the use of integrally emitted CO2 as an attractant.

    ABC Trap Kit with CO2 (Dry Ice)This kit provides the same capabilities as TRAPKIT1 with the added feature of being able to use dry ice as an integral source of CO2 for attracting mosquitoes or other Dipterans.This kit includes the American Biophysics CO2LID which is an insulated 2 liter container, assembled directly to the top of the trap, with a built-in manifold to provide CO2 at a continuous rate of approximately 500 ml per minute.

    ABC Trap Kit with CO2 (Tank)This kit has all the capabilities of TRAPKIT1 but incorporates a convenient method for using compressed CO2 from cylinders as an attractant.This kit includes the American Biophysics LID1 which is a rugged molded plastic lid, fitted with a quick connect vinyl hose assembly for attachment to a CO2 source.

    TRAPKIT3 includes FLOWSET1 which is comprised of a pressure regulator with output fixed at 15 psig, a 10 micron line filter, a 500 ml/min flow control orifice and quick-connect luer fittings.With a 5lb. CO2 tank (not provided) this trap can emit CO2 for approximately 38 hours. The CO2 flow rate can be adjusted by using different flow control orifices that are available as individual parts.TRAPKIT3 is shipped complete with everything necessary for trapping (except the CO2 cylinder).

Several nights of operation can be expected before recharging. This lightweight trap (weighs only 1 3/4 lbs) makes it easy to use in remote areas. And a collapsible catching cage allows for ease of transporting this trap.

  • Lid Adapter for CDC Trap

    Lid Adapter for CDC Trap CDC Adapter is designed to mount on existing CDC traps in place of the standard metal “pizza pan” lid, using the nut supplied with the CDC trap.Once secure, the CO2LID or LID1 may be attached with a simple twist.Use of American Biophysics lids with CDC traps allows carbon dioxide to be presented from dry ice or tanks in a consistent manner, eliminating trap to trap variability.Another benefit of the polymer lids is the prevention of battery shorts while enroute to the trap site.

  • NJ Light Trap

    NJ Light Trap The New Jersey light trap is generally used to measure the effectiveness of mosquito control in populated areas and provides historical data of mosquito species and counts. This trap is usually permanently mounted and depends upon a 110-volt source of electric power that funnels the mosquitoes into a collection jar. The New Jersey light trap has been a surveillance tool for over 70 years.

  • Plastic Killing Jar with Connecting Sleeve

    Plastic Killing Jar with Connecting Sleeve KJAR is used as an alternate method of collecting Dipterans when catch viability is not a requirement. KJAR is a one pint (475ml), wide mouth, plastic jar that connects to any one of the American Biophysics ABC traps via a polyester mesh sleeve.The sleeve has draw cords at both ends for easy attachment and removal.

    The sleeve is constructed of the same high quality material as NET1 with a mesh greater than 50 per inch to retain the smallest insects.Killing chemicals may be applied to porous material and placed in the bottom of the jar or, as it is sometimes done with alcohol, applied directly to the jar.A screw cap is provided for transportation or storage of the catch.

ABC’s traps are designed to release CO2 in identical plumes, whether the gas is from dry ice or from tanks.

The American Biophysics CO2LID can be screwed onto the ABC TRAP1 and can hold up to four pounds of dry ice.Eliminating the need for hoses, bags or other cumbersome parts, this easy to use container has a built-in manifold releasing CO2 at a uniform rate of approximately 500 ml per minute directly to the ABC TRAP1 interior.

    Use of the CO2LID eliminates trapping variability caused by wind conditions, temperature changes and humidity produced ice encasement. A 1.5 pound block of dry ice will provide constant output for the entire night.
