We’re proud to announce our acquisition of the assets of Advanced Microbiologics, bringing the Spheratax® larvicide portfolio and its proven Lysinibacillus sphaericus (Ls) active ingredient under Clarke’s stewardship. This addition follows our recent acquisition of Becker Microbial Products and the AquaBac® larvicide line containing the active ingredient Bti.
Both of these strategic additions strengthen our ability to serve vector control professionals with comprehensive resistance management solutions and expand our capacity to protect communities worldwide.
Effective mosquito control requires access to multiple active ingredients to prevent resistance from developing and enabling the long-term use of all available tools.
With Advanced Microbiologics now part of Clarke, we’re adding Lysinibacillus sphaericus (Ls), formerly known as Bacillus sphaericus – a critical tool for rotation strategies targeting Culex and other mosquito species to our portfolio.
The Spheratax line includes:
Both products deliver effective control while fitting naturally into integrated mosquito management programs that rely on active ingredient rotation to maintain long-term efficacy.
“This acquisition expands our resistance management toolkit,” said Allen Gent, CEO and President of Clarke. “Vector control professionals now have access to more of the larvicide active ingredients they need for effective rotation strategies, all backed by Clarke’s product stewardship.”
The Spheratax product line contains Clarke’s proprietary Ls strain, offering vector control professionals a proven tool for resistance management when rotated with other active ingredients.
Ls is a naturally occurring soil bacterium that produces highly specified protein toxins that serves as a highly effective biological larvicide for mosquito control. This environmentally safe active ingredient is particularly effective against Culex mosquito species.
Ls works as a microbial insecticide: Mosquito larvae ingest the bacterial spores and proteins that target mosquito gut receptors, causing larval death while remaining safe for fish, birds, and beneficial insects.
A key advantage of Ls is its ability to resporulate in the mosquito gut after the initial application, providing extended control in the treated site that can last weeks, rather than days. This makes it particularly valuable for controlling Cuelx mosquitoes in polluted water sources like catch basins and storm drains, where many mosquito control professionals prefer a multibrood, extended control product.
Clarke now offers public health mosquito control programs access to multiple active ingredients for comprehensive resistance management:
This expanded portfolio means vector control professionals can design more effective rotation strategies, access technical support from a single trusted partner, and benefit from Clarke’s decades of experience in integrated mosquito management.
The addition of Spheratax to Clarke’s portfolio reflects our continued commitment to innovation, partnership, and serving the global public health community. Just as we’ve done for 80 years, Clarke is committed to supporting these products with comprehensive stewardship – our control consultants, field science team, and technical experts who provide the training, operational guidance, and field-proven support that vector control professionals need.
We’re grateful to the Advanced Microbiologics team for developing these effective products, and we’re committed to honoring that legacy through continued excellence and dedicated customer support.
